We compare experimentally Moving Mesh Partial Differential Equations (Huang et al. (1994)) to the String Gradient Weighted Moving Finite Element Methods (Wacher et al (2003)) applied to the viscous Burgers equation and to the porous medium equation for one dimension. The methods are tested on a travelling wave solution, the Barenblatt solution of the porous medium equation and on one of the waiting time solution discovered by Lacey (1983)
